Our Ship’s-a-Coming In

By the shore we stand a-waiting, for this day our ship’s a-coming.

One long, homeless night in late ’87, I found shelter at a friend’s flat. To repay him for his hospitality I grabbed a few materials and sketched this for his wall. My private inspiration in doing this was to affirm my need to believe that my life would turn around again, and that my ship would indeed come in. Well it has, and as years later he returned the sketch to me, I would now like to share it with all you good folk who honour me with your visits. I’ve rendered it here in scratchboard form but the small pic underneath opens up to reveal the original. I hope you like.

  1. I love the drawing, more so that in Cartomancy Ship is layered with deep symbolism (it stands for thoughts, intentions, travel etc. ;)) Oh, and dolphin pair – absolutely adorable!
